Christmas is fast approaching, this can only mean one thing, mince pies. The rapid development of the free from market has resulted in a variety of both dairy and gluten free mince pies being readily available. The first brand of mince pies my mum (who’s gluten free) and I decided to try was from Waitrose.

I liked the simple red festive packaging with inviting pictures of what was to be found inside. The only allergens listed were sulphur dioxide and almonds. On opening the box the pies were neatly secured inside so no accidental breakages occurred. The pastry was slightly pale and had a nice sugar coating. On biting into the mince pie a slight crunch noted. The pastry was not dry or flakey and didn’t crumble easily like some gluten free products can. In fact the pastry slightly melted in the mouth. Inside the pie there was a good quantity of mince inside. I enjoyed the of both the flavour of the pastry and the mince, they complimented each other nicely.

These a yummy seasonal treat either warm or cold that I would definitely recommend. So thank you Waitrose for producing a lovely mince pie that both my mum and I can enjoy.
