As a lady who enjoys her cups of tea on a daily basis I am always on the lookout for new teas to try. Darjeeling tea is one of my favourite teas as it can be enjoyed milk free, perfect for dairy free me. I have tried several brands of Darjeeling tea of varying qualities. So when The Tea Makers of London contacted me and asked if I would like to try their NO.37 Glenburn First Flush Darjeeling Tea I of course said yes.
Onto the packaging I received a sample packet. I liked the dark black theme to the front. To the centre is a simple black label with the companies logo to the top. There is an inviting description of what to expect from the tea. The back of the packet is silver and has a clear window allowing you to see the tea inside. I also liked the ability to easily re-seal the packet to keep the freshness of the tea. Onto the ingredients list. Only Darjeeling black tea is listed. There are no allergens highlighted in the ingredients list and there is no may contain warning.
On opening the packet I was greeted by an inviting combination of aromas which I would describe as initially being like fresh hay bales followed by a more intense woody yet muscatel aroma. I added slightly cooled freshly boiled water to the tea and infused as instructed resulting in a pale gold colour. The aroma was slightly more subtle than I had anticipated. It reminded me of a combination of both green and white tea. A subtle note of grassiness intermingled with a hint of floral and finished with a slight more dense woodiness. This intensified only slightly on my famous close up sniff test.
On sipping the tea it had a subtle combination of flavours which were delicate and well balanced. I got the initial slight hint of grassiness followed by a hint of floral notes and a faint woodiness. It had the perfect balance of both aroma and flavour. I re-steeped the tea several times and it just seemed to get better. In fact I have to say that this has to be the best Darjeeling tea that I have tried.
So would I recommend this Darjeeling tea? Yes, definitely. It is a delicate, light refreshing tea that is perfect for a hot summers day. So thank you The Tea Makers of London for producing a truly delightful Darjeeling tea.
