Review of Tesco’s Free From Blueberry Yogurt

I enjoy a yogurt most days as part of my packed lunch or as an extra addition to fresh fruit. The choices of vegan yogurt seems to have rapidly expanded. You can now easily pick them up from your local supermarket. Despite this I tend to buy the same yogurt so I thought that was about time that I tried some new yogurt. As I was picking up a few treats in Tesco I decided to try their free from blueberry yogurt.

I liked the style of the packaging. It’s simple cream background with an inviting bowl of blueberries and a glass pot filled with the yogurt. Onto the ingredients list. The yogurt is clearly labelled as being gluten free, milk free and suitable for a vegan diet. The only allergen listed is soya.

On opening the yogurt I was greeted by a slightly greyish/purple yogurt which in all honesty was slightly off-putting. Sadly this isn’t very apparent in my photos. I was a little disappointed by the lack of aroma of this yogurt. I was expecting to smell an aroma that I associate with blueberries. Instead I got greeted by a sweet artificial aroma that I would not describe as blueberries. On placing the spoon into the yogurt it was slightly thinner in texture when comparing it to other yogurt that I have previously tried. On tasting the yogurt I was hit by two textures. The slightly thin texture from the yogurt itself which was combined with fine small pieces from the blueberry puree. These worked well together. As for the flavour this was quiet sweet and artificial. If I had tasted it in a blind test I am not sure that I would be able to recognise the flavour as being blueberry. In fact I struggled to finish the yogurt, I did finish all four pots because I had paid for them.

So would I recommend this yogurt? I’m afraid not. They seemed to lack any real blueberry flavour and the colour just wasn’t visually appealing. So if you follow a dairy free, gluten free or a vegan diet I would perhaps try a different yogurt instead. Sorry Tesco’s this yogurt just wasn’t for me.
