Review of Tesco’s apple & cinnamon infusion tea

I’ve been trying really hard lately to reduce my caffeine intake. This is proving quiet difficult as I do like a nice cup of tea. I am constantly on the look out for new fruit and herbal teas that are caffeine free to try. Whilst shopping in Tesco’s I accidentally found myself in the tea aisle and I was immediately drawn to this apple & cinnamon infusion. I loved the simple green packaging with its quirky pictures of what look like flowers. I’m guessing that these were meant to represent the apples and cinnamon.
The teabags are clearly labelled as being caffeine free on the front of the packaging. On checking the ingredients to the back I was a little surprised. They contained dried apple 45%, hibiscus, then cinnamon flavouring at 20%, chicory root and elderberry flavouring. I naively thought it would just be apple and cinnamon.
Inside the box I was greeted by a sealed foil packaging on opening this was there was a nice aroma of cinnamon. I have to confess to smelling inside the foil packaging several times as I love cinnamon and it was so inviting. Sadly, I was unable to smell the apple. This didn’t matter I just wanted to dive right in and make my cup of tea. I placed my teabag in my tea cup added the hot water and waited for the tea to infuse. The instructions on the packaging recommend 3-5 minutes. To be honest I left my teabag in which would be within this time frame by the time I had finished the tea. The tea turned to a light green / red colour. What struck me immediately was the lack of aroma it had simply disappeared even on my close up sniff test. Definitely no apple or cinnamon noted, in fact nothing really. Onto the taste what can I say it was bland and simply lacked any flavour. A big disappointment and let down considering the initial excitement I got from the aroma on opening the foil packaging.
So would I recommend this apple & cinnamon infusion tea definitely not. It simply lacked any aroma or flavour. It was almost as if an essence of cinnamon had been added to the foil packaging once the teabags and been placed inside because it just disappeared. I had hoped for a refreshing fruit tea and this simply wasn’t the case. Sorry Tesco’s but this tea just was not for me. Time to find some other fruit teas to try.
