I have to confess to not having these for a considerable time. I always used to treat myself to these shortbreads when I met a friend in East Grinstead. We always ended up in Waitrose and I stocked up on these treats. The rapid expansion of the free from market stopped me doing this because I was finding so many new sweet treats to try, sorry Lazy Day Foods. At Christmas my mother in law always does me in mini homemade hamper of dairy free treats for me to enjoy. A lot and thought always go into these hampers. This Christmas she placed two packets of the Lazy Day Foods millionaire’s shortbread as she remembered that they were a special treat I used to enjoy. So what did I think ? Were they as nice as I remembered ? How did they compare to the new treats I have recently discovered ?

I liked the packaging it is simple with all of their products having the same design. The packaging allows you to see the treat that waits inside. The labelling is very clear and easy to understand. They are suitable for a dairy free, gluten free and vegan diet.

On opening the packet what I noted was the aroma of sweet caramel with a hint of chocolate. I just wanted to dive in. The biscuits are square and consist of the three layers. The shortbread base, the top layer which is chocolate and sandwiched between this is caramel. On biting into the biscuit I immediately tasted the chocolate which was slightly rich yet smooth. This was followed by a rich gooey caramel which was thick and slightly sticky. The flavours complimented each other perfectly and coated my mouth in a nice very sweet paste, sorry it’s hard to describe. This was complimented nicely by the base which was nice and crumbly.

In summary all of the three layers in this biscuit worked perfectly together from the varying textures to the flavours. The small portion was spot on due to its sweetness. I now remember why I used to look forward to stocking up on these sweet treats. So thank you Lazy Days, these make a really nice sweet treat. I shall be trying the rest of your products in this range now. So if you are dairy free like me, gluten free or vegan why not give these a try.
