On my ongoing mission to find new teas to try I found myself in a Lidl supermarket. I have tried a couple of their teas and reviewed these on my blog and to be honest I’ve not been that impressed. I didn’t let this deter me and picked a few more of their teas to try. I thought I would start with their ceylon first. The teabags come in a box of 50. The box is mainly black with a picture of 3 blue elephants to the front. The teabags are described as being a fragrant tea blend with a lively delicate flavour. The ingredients list only states 100% black tea, so pretty vague. It recommends leaving the teabag in for 3-4 minutes for a stronger brew.

Now, I have all my teas milk free due to my dairy and lactose free diet. On opening the box I noted no aroma coming from the teabags. I placed a teabag into a mug and added the hot water. I have personally found the other Knightsbridge’s teas that I have tried pretty weak in flavour, so left the teabag in for 4 minutes as instructed for a stronger tea. It took a little while for the tea to infuse with the hot water and change to a medium brown colour. Even though I left the teabag to infuse with the water as instructed I was unable to smell any aroma coming from the tea.

On sipping the tea I found it to be pretty bland and non descript in flavour. It reminded of a cheap tea you get at work where the teabags come out of a large value bag. The only difference being that the ceylon seemed to be a lot weaker. I know that these are cheap teabags, but I was personally very disappointed with by both the aroma and flavour. These are now at work as an emergency tea as and when needed. I am afraid that I wouldn’t recommend these, sorry Lidl.
