When I saw these chocolate desserts in the free from chiller section of Tesco’s I just had to give them a try. Now I am girl who likes to indulge in a little chocolate and the occasional sweet treat for dessert. So these ticked both boxes so into my shopping basket they went. The packaging is similar to all of Tesco’s free from range. They come in four small separate plastic pots with a cardboard sleeve keeping them together. The labelling is clear and easy to understand. They are shown as being gluten, milk and egg free as well as being suitable for a vegan diet. As with their fromage frais alternative each pot is clearly labelled as containing soya.

On opening a pot of the dessert I was expecting an aroma of chocolate what I got was a slightly sweet aroma which I wouldn’t describe as chocolate. On placing my spoon into the dessert I was expecting a thicker dessert what I got was a fairly runny mixture aka dessert. It ran of my spoon quiet easily. I was disappointed by this as I had hoped for a thicker consistency. On tasting the dessert I could taste an artificial sweet flavour which was hard to distinguish. It may have been slightly chocolatey but I can imagine that if I was blind folded I wouldn’t be able to tell this.

In summary I liked the clear easy to read allergen labelling and the individual pots labelled as containing soya. Other than that I am afraid it is a thumbs down from me. The flavour and texture just didn’t meet my standards and they are not that high. Sorry Tesco’s but these smooth chocolate desserts definitely weren’t my cup of tea. I won’t be buying these again and therefore wouldn’t recommend them to anyone who follows a dairy free, gluten free of vegan diet.
