Review of Morrisons Free From Christmas Pudding

Now I am trying to be more organised with my Christmas reviews this year. As I was in Morrisons I thought I would grab some items from their free from range Christmas range. One of the items that I decided to try was their Christmas pudding.
I personally liked the packaging in their usual style of their free from foods with picture of a very inviting Christmas pudding to the front. It is clearly labelled as being gluten free and milk free. Onto the ingredients list no allergens are highlighted. It is also suitable for a vegetarians. There is no may contain warning.
On opening the packaging I was a little disappointed. I had hoped to be greeted by the delightful aroma of a rich Christmas pudding, but it just wasn’t present. On my famous close up sniff test I could smell the mixed fruit but not the rum or mixed spice. I microwaved my pudding and let it rest exactly as per the instructions on the packet. I placed the plastic tub upside down and gently removed the tub. The pudding kept its shape and consistency which was a big plus compared to previous Christmas puddings that I have tried.
Onto the aroma of the pudding this seemed to remain the same as before it was heated, a tad disappointing if I’m honest. I had hoped that smell of the fruit would intensify and I might be able to smell a hint of those mixed spices but sadly not. This also didn’t change on my famous close up sniff test. On placing the pudding onto my spoon it kept its structure and consistency. Onto the ingredients the fruit seemed to a little sparse compared to other puddings that I have tried. As for its flavour it was ok but nothing special. I was able to taste the flavours from the fruit but flavours from the mixed spice and rum simply seemed to be missing.

So would I recommend this free from Christmas pudding if you follow a dairy free and or gluten free diet? I’m afraid not. Yes it had a nice texture and consistency but its flavours just let it down. Sorry Morrisions but I’m afraid I have tried nicer free from Christmas puddings.
