Review of Alpro Oat Milk

Well my mission to try some new dairy free milks has not been that successful. So I am trying really hard to find some new dairy free milks to try. One milk that I rarely try is oat mainly because I have yet to find one that I have enjoyed. Several people have recommended that I try Alpro oat milk. I saw it offer in Tesco’s and thought I should give it a try. I liked the colour and design of the packaging with the cream scheme with a picture of oats cascading down the centre. To the top is Alpro’s logo.

Onto the ingredients list, this is found on the back of the carton with 10% noted. The oat is clearly highlighted in bold as an allergen. There is no may contain warning. The milk is labelled as being free from dairy and wheat. It is also suitable for a vegan diet.

On opening the carton there was a very pleasant subtle nuttiness aroma to the milk. If I am honest it was stronger than I was anticipating but I liked this. This intensified slightly on my close up sniff test. It poured easily into a glass it and was a rich cream in colour. It was slightly thicker and creamier in consistency when comparing to other milks that I have tried. On sipping the milk it was smooth and creamy in texture. There was a pleasant subtle sweet nutty flavour to this milk. This was more noticeable than other milks that I have tried and very pleasant. I also warmed the milk for 90 seconds in the microwave ready for my famous Weetabix test. It microwaved well and did not separate or form a skin to the top of the milk. Its aroma didn’t change. It was absorbed easily by the Weetabix. On tasting the Weetabix it tasted just as a Weetabix should the milk did not impact on its flavour. This may sound a little strange but a couple of milks that I have previously tried have made my Weetabix have an artificially slightly sweet flavour. I personally don’t like this and like to add my own sugar to my Weetabix should I want to.

So would I recommend this oat milk? Yes I would. I liked everything about this milk from its aroma through to its flavour and texture. In fact it is one of the nicest milks I have tried. So if you follow a dairy free or a vegan diet why not give this oat milk a try. So thank you Alpro for producing an oat milk that I can enjoy.
Proudly linking up to some of these brilliant linkies

Yess, I’d really be into this – I’m obsessed with milk substitutes at the moment from soya milk to rice milk (I’m allergic to almonds, so I can’t be drinking almond milk) but I’ve never tried oat milk and it sounds right up my street! I like the sound of a sweet nutty flavour as well! x

Hi there, you should try Oatly! oat drink – the Barista version foams up so well and makes an amazing capuccino!

I tried it one night when I ran out of milk and it was easy and wasn’t bad! I loved that it was just water and oats!

I haven’t tried a store-bought version of oat milk, but I have made my own often using this recipe: http://ohsheglows.com/2013/01/10/homemade-oat-milk-easy-fast-cheap/ . It’s easy and affordable, and has the option of adding cinnamon which I love – it’s the only milk substitute I want to drink plain from a glass. Unfortunately, it isn’t high in nutrition so if you are looking for the benefit of added nutrients it is better to go with a store-bought version.

I would be interested to try this. I don’t like the taste of milk and haven’t drank it since I was maybe 6 years old. If I do have cereal I tend to go for soya or rice milk. #FabFridayPost

Oh I would love to know what you do think if you do give it a try. Soya also used to be my first choice for many years.

My daughter has a dairy intolerance so she usually has soya milk. However, she’s been being sick a lot lately after drinking it so we’ve been trying other milks. Oat milk is now one of her favourites, but we’ve been getting the Oatly one – purely because it was on offer when we first got it. I think I will get one of the Alpro oat ones for her to try because she’s always enjoyed their soya and coconut milks. X #TriumphantTales

I’ve had oat milk but not this brand. Oat milk is ok but not my favorite milk substitute. I’ll have to look for this brand, Alpro, and give it a try. #MMBC
