Review of Yogi Tea Choco Mint Tea

I am a girl who loves my cups of tea and chocolate. So when I heard that Yogi Tea had bought out a new blend called Choco Mint I couldn’t wait to give it a try. I was then very lucky to receive a free sample packet to try. I liked the colour of the deep blue packaging with an inviting picture of a cup of steaming tea to the centre. I was intrigued by the wording under the ingredients list, fresh, laid back, gentle. I wondered what my experience of drinking this tea would be like.

Onto the ingredients list cocoa shells, (60%), liquorice (12%), peppermint (6%), anise, fat reduced cocoa powder, cinnamon, black pepper, carob, cardamom, ginger, peppermint oil, vanilla extract, barley malt, cloves, vanilla beans. Barley malt is highlighted as an allergen and there is no may contain warning.

On opening the box I was greeted by 17 individual tea envelopes. I like this as it means that you place one in your bag and have it on the go. Or as an alternative when you politely decline an everyday tea. On opening the tea envelope I was greeted by a liquorice aroma. The aroma did not change on my close up sniff test.
Review of Yogi Tea Choc Mint Tea
I placed my teabag in my teacup and added the freshly boiled hot water to let the tea infuse with the hot water as instructed. The tea infused with the hot water and turned to a light/medium brown colour. But what about the aroma? The liquorice was the predominant aroma with subtle undertones of cocoa and peppermint noted. On my close up sniff test the peppermint intensified a little but not much. I was a little disappointed by this as the list of ingredients is pretty extensive yet the liquorice seemed to drown these out. On sipping the tea the predominant flavour like the aroma was the liquorice. This was intermingled with the cocoa and the peppermint and complimented with a subtle hint of vanilla at the end. Sadly I was unable to taste the other elements to this tea. On a positive note though it was light and refreshing tea.
Review of Yogi Tea Choc Mint Tea
So would I recommend this choc mint tea? I’m afraid not. I was a little disappointed by this tea. I have tried nicer chocolate mint teas. Yes it was a light and refreshing but it was lacking the chocolate and mint aroma and flavour that I was hoping for. The liquorice just seemed to overpower this. Sorry Yogi Tea but this choco mint tea just wasn’t for me.

Disclaimer: I received a sample of this tea all of the opinions in this post are honest and my own.

I’m a big fan of Yogi tea, especially the sweet chilli (you get a lovely, refreshing zap of spearmint with that one). My Portuguese friend loves their Choco blend, so I send her the occasional box.

What a shame that it wasn’t quite what you expected. Choc and mint are a nice combo when they have a bit of strength to them.

Thanks for sharing with #MMBC Chloe. 🙂 x

Hi, you certainly can there are several brands that do this combination of flavours. It can be a great way to have a sweet treat minus the calories.

The sound of a choc mint tea is fab but I’m not a fan of liquorice especially if it overpowers the other flavours! #bloggersbest
