Review of Sainsbury’s Free From Choc Orange Bar

Ok, so I like a little chocolate as a treat. Grabbing a quick bar to enjoy is never easy when you are dairy free. Even dark chocolates can contain milk. So when I recently popped into a Sainsbury’s local I was surprised to find their own brand free from choc & orange bars. So even though I didn’t really need one I may have grabbed one to try at a later date.
Review of Sainsbury’s free from choc orange bar
I personally liked the packaging of this chocolate bar. It is in their usual style of their free from foods. I am not normally keen on this. However, in this instance the design with the simple orange stripes to each end works well. It is clearly labelled as being gluten free, wheat free and milk free. Onto the ingredients list with regards to allergens soya is highlighted. There is no may contain warning. However, the is a note stating that it is not suitable for nut or peanut allergy sufferers due to manufacturing methods.

On opening the package I was immediately greeted by a subtle aroma of orange and the sweetness from the chocolate. I was looking forward to trying this chocolate bar. The actual chocolate bar is made up of squares which were easy to break. On biting into the chocolate my taste buds were first hit by the sweetness from the chocolate. This was followed by a subtle citrus flavour from the orange. I personally think it is great not to have a strong orange flavour as it gives the chocolate a subtle twist. This may make it more appealing to children as well as grown ups of course. Onto the bars the texture. The chocolate was initially firm on biting into it but then this soon changed to a smooth and slightly creamy texture. I had this chocolate bar over a couple of days but it would very easy to eat it in one sitting.

So would I recommend this chocolate orange bar? Yes I would. It is a great value chocolate bar with the right balance of flavours and textures. So if you like chocolate and follow a dairy free, gluten free, and or vegan diet give this bar a try. So thank you Sainsbury’s for producing a chocolate bar that I can enjoy.

It’s always good to find alternatives to conventional chocolate that actually taste good. There are so many options out there but many don’t live up to their claims. Sounds like you’re onto a winner here.

I like the fact Sainsbury’s are being consistent with their ‘free from’ packaging. It helps, doesn’t it? It’s lovely when you get a new item in your list of safe treats, isn’t it? Supermarkets have really upped their game in the past 2 years.

Hi, yes the consistency of the packaging certainly helps. It sure is great when you can add to the safe list, which is certainly getting bigger with the supermarkets upping their game.

Yum! Chocolate. Well done Sainsbury’s on your free from range. This looks fab and the easy to break off bite-sized pieces make it a good one for the handbag *whispers – yes, alongside kiddie snacks there is usually an *coughs* emergency chocolate bar in my bag. Thanks for bringing the yummies to the #dreamteam xx

When I was in the UK last spring I was absolutely delighted to find their free from “milk” chocolate, and even dairy free white chocolate! There is either only dark chocolate here in Canada (and again, you have to be very careful to watch for dairy-free), or there is 1 rice milk bar that is very difficult to find, but it doesn’t taste very good. I stocked up on the Sainsbury’s free from bars before I left the UK, but sadly, they are now all gone.

Oh it makes you realise how lucky we are here to now have so many choices. I bet you are having to ration your chocolate bars.
