Review of English Tea Shop Peppermint Tea

One of my favourite caffeine free teas has to be peppermint. I drink it most days as way to reduce my caffeine intake. So when I received an English Tea gift box full of a variety of teas I couldn’t wait to try the peppermint tea. I personally liked calming light green and teal colour scheme to the packaging, with a picture of a teapot to the bottom with an integrated mint leaf design.

Onto the ingredients list organic and fair trade peppermint is listed under the ingredients list. There are no allergens highlighted and there is no may contain warning.

On opening the packet the tea bag emitted a very faint and non descript aroma. This was much weaker than I had anticipated especially when compared to other brand teas that I have tried. This didn’t intensify on my close up sniff test. I placed my teabag into my teacup and added the freshly boiled hot water. The water soon changed to the light brown / greenish colour. It took a couple of minutes for the teas very slight aroma to develop once it had it was fairly weak. This didn’t change on the my famous close up sniff test. On sipping the tea, it was definitely one of the weaker peppermint teas that I have tried. I struggled to taste the peppermint flavour just like the aroma. It was a bit of a let down when comparing its taste to other peppermint teas that I have tried. It was certainly one of the weakest that I have tried. I didn’t even get that warm comforting sensation in my tummy that I get when I drink a mint tea. Very disappointing really.

So would I recommend this peppermint tea? I’m afraid not. It just seemed to lack any real peppermint aroma and flavour. I’m afraid that I won’t be buying this tea. Sorry English Tea Shop but this tea just wasn’t for me.

It sucks that you weren’t happy with this tea. I haven’t tried it but I do love peppermint tea.

Hi, I am always as honest I can be, in this instance just wasn’t nice enough for me, hey ho. You have inspired me to discover a scrap book now of my travels last year ?.

    • December 12, 2017 / 9:47 pm

Indeed it was a shame maybe next time I may have more luck.

I love your site! How awesome that you review tea. I love tea and especially peppermint tea. I love the packaging of this tea so I could feel your disappointment whilst I was reading. Peppermint tea has to be strong otherwise what is the point. My brother puts honey in his but I just love the taste on its own. I drink a lot of mint tea so was interested in this review. Thankyou. #bloggersbest

Thank you so. Much for you kind comments, it has made my evening. Oh and hello to a fellow tea lover. Indeed peppermint should be strong, I have never even though of adding honey to tea. I should perhaps give it a try.

      • December 13, 2017 / 6:06 pm

Oh I’m not sure you should! Although for science and the blog, perhaps you could! X

        • December 13, 2017 / 6:29 pm

Yes maybe just the once in the name of science and the blog ?

    • December 13, 2017 / 5:55 pm

Indeed nothing worse than a peppermint tea that doesn’t rally taste of mint.

  8. December 13, 2017 / 1:19 pm

Peppermint, although I don’t drink tea, is a flavour that reminds me most of Christmas; great post!

    • December 13, 2017 / 5:54 pm

Oh thats interesting that it reminds you of Christmas,

I haven’t had a cup of peppermint tea in forever! So sorry you didn’t care for this one.

    • December 13, 2017 / 5:50 pm

Oh you must have one again soon, at least there are a few that I can enjoy .

I haven’t found one I like in a long while. All the peppermint teas here are blended with green tea, which I dislike. I must go look and see if I can find one without it.

        • December 13, 2017 / 6:30 pm

Hi, yes more mint teas seem to be blended with green tea must be a very popular choice.

  11. December 14, 2017 / 1:47 am

I absolutely love Peppermint in anything, such a shame you didn’t like this one very much. Do you have any other minty teas that you would suggest?

    • December 14, 2017 / 6:40 pm

Gosh there a few but one of my favourites has to be Hope and Glory mint tea.

  12. December 14, 2017 / 5:10 pm

Such a shame this one didn’t meet expectations – if I was to drink a peppermint tea I think I’d want to be able to smell it too!

    December 14, 2017 / 5:17 pm

Its a shame the flavour and smell wasn’t strong enough.. I think a lot of teas like this don’t have enough flavour. The tea bag looks pretty at least xx

    • December 14, 2017 / 6:38 pm

I totally agree, and yeh for the pretty packaging

  15. December 14, 2017 / 5:33 pm

Thank you for your honest review here – I’m always amazed by how good your pallet is for subtle taste differences and aromas. I think I personally have weaker taste buds!

    • December 14, 2017 / 6:37 pm

It has taking years of training, honestly ?. You might well like tnhis tea then.

    • December 14, 2017 / 6:36 pm

Oh mint ice ream sounds intriguing.

  16. December 14, 2017 / 5:46 pm

I really want to get peppermint tea but I would love to know good brand! This one looks super cute it’s a shame it didn’t taste as good! Great review! ?

    • December 14, 2017 / 6:35 pm

What a pretty package but what a shame it didn’t live up to expectations. I know exactly what you mean about the warming feeling in your tummy too. Personally I love pouring boiling water on freshly picked mint, it’s my favourite non-caffeine tea. Thank you for an honest review x

    • December 14, 2017 / 9:24 pm

Oh yes that is the best fresh mint and hot water. I need to grow some more mint I used to have a few varieties. Oh and you can’t beat the warm feeling in the tummy.

Me to, never mind lots more tea to try.

  19. December 17, 2017 / 4:57 pm

Have to admit as much as I love different teas, Peppermint just isn’t one I really enjoy Love the pretty packaging though!

    • December 18, 2017 / 5:44 pm

Hi, it can be an acquired taste, yes the only positive really was the packaging.
