Review of co-op raspberry jelly

I have always enjoyed jelly and it was often the only safe dairy free treat I could have at parties. I love the fact that you can easily pick up ready made jellies from supermarkets. I particularly like the ones that have fruit with the jelly. So when I saw that the co-op had a fruit jelly as part of their lunch deal I had to give it a go.

I liked the simplicity of the packaging. The jelly itself comes in a cup style plastic container meaning that you can see the jelly inside. It had a nice scattering of raspberries in the middle of the jelly. There were no allergens listed on its ingredients label it was therefore suitable for a dairy free diet. It is also labelled as being suitable for vegans.

On opening the lid and a very faint sweet artificial aroma which I wouldn’t describe as raspberry was noted. I placed my spoon into the pot. The jelly was of a medium gooey consistency with no real wobble noted. I had a couple of spoonful’s of the jelly before I hit the raspberries which was a nice change compared to the other jellies that I have previously tried. As for the flavour of the jelly it was a tad bland and I couldn’t really decide what flavour this actually was. If I was blind folded I wouldn’t have been able to tell you that it was raspberry. As for the raspberries these were a tad tart and added a little flavour to the jelly.

So would I recommend this jelly? I’m afraid not. The flavour was simply lacking and I certainly didn’t enjoy the texture. It didn’t really make a nice sweet treat on the go. Sorry co-op this jelly wasn’t for me.

  1. Oh dear, I may try this anyway as it’s vegan and I rarely get to have jelly! #bestandworst

  2. What a shame that it was so poor! So disappointing although I do like the idea that it’s vegan, interesting to know m&s do vegan jelly too. Hopefully that’s better! Thanks for linking up with the #bigpinklink
