Review of KIND Snacks Almond & Coconut Bar

Now those of you that follow my blog know that I must have my mid morning snack. Nature Valley cereal bars are still my favourite but I am trying to get more adventurous and try alternatives. Whilst at the Allergy and Free From Show in London I popped along to the KIND Snacks stand to see what they stocked. I came away with a mini selection of their bars to try. One of which was their almond and coconut.

I personally like the clear packaging design of KIND Snacks with the stripes to the side. The packaging entices you to want to eat the snack. Onto the ingredients it is clearly labelled as being dairy free and gluten free. Soy is highlighted as an allergen in the ingredients list. There is a may contain warning for peanuts, tree nuts and sesame.

On opening the packet I was surprised as the bar looked quiet sticky. What struck me was the sweet aroma of coconut. To me this smelt a little artificial. On my close up sniff test I could smell the almond and the coconut intensified. On biting into the bar I was struck by its different textures. It was very sticky and gooey in texture with the intermittent crunch noted from the almonds. I didn’t notice the different texture from the small rice puffs intermingled in the bar. To be fair I was glad to have the crunch element because I found eating the bar hard work. I also found all of the chewing to be a little tedious. On a positive note this resulted in it taking longer to eat which meant it latest longer. As for the flavour of this bar the only element that my taste buds seemed to encounter was the sweetness from the coconut. Now I love coconut but it was a little to sweet for my liking and impacted on the flavour from the almonds.

So would I recommend this flavour of KIND Snack bars if you follow a dairy free and or gluten free diet I’m sorry but no. I found the sweet aroma a little of putting and didn’t enjoy its texture. It was simply to gooey and sticky for my liking and involved far too much chewing. Sorry KIND Snacks but this snack bar just wasn’t for me.
