Review of Orgran Gluten Free Classic Choc Biscotti

Well I discovered these at the recent Allergy Show, London. So I promptly purchased a couple of packets to take home as they were a bargain and it would have been rude not to. If you’ve not heard of Orgran it’s a food company that produces gluten free foods. This particular free from product is: gluten, wheat, egg, dairy, soy, and yeast free. It is also suitable for both a kosher and vegan diet. The only allergen listed is sulphur dioxide. I liked it’s simple packaging with a picture of the biscotti’s inside the box. One of the biscotti biscuits contains 37 calories, 1.9g of fat, and 0g of salt.
On opening the box there is a sealed plastic bag inside. Within this the biscotti biscuits can be found. The biscotti’s looked identical to the picture on the front of the box. There was a pleasant aroma of coconut noted coming from the box. The biscotti’s were of a good size and were a rich brown colour which looked slightly crumbly. On picking up the biscotti it did crumble slightly dropping several crumbs. On bitting into the biscotti a good crunch was noted which was followed by a nice crumbly light texture. I could definitely taste the desiccated coconut element to the biscuit and the fact it was made with rice flour. I personally felt that this contributed in a positive way to its texture. As for the taste the chocolate element definitely came through, it was just right being subtle but not too overpowering. This combined with the coconut element was spot on and perfect for my taste buds. I found these biscuits highly addictive and ate a few more than anticipated. It was just as well that I was sharing them with my mum, otherwise I may have over indulged.
I had mine with a nice cup of black earl grey tea. I mention this because they made a fantastic dunking biscuit and didn’t fall apart. So if you are dairy / lactose free like me or follow any of the free from diets mentioned earlier due to an allergy or intolerance give this a try. So thank you Orgran for producing a nice chocolate biscotti biscuit that both my mum and I can enjoy.
