Review of Sainsbury’s Free From Fusilli Pasta

I popped into Sainsbury’s the other day and of course found myself in the free from aisle. Whilst deciding what treats to place in my basket I thought I would give their free from pasta a try. Now I am lucky to be able to have ordinary pasta as being dairy free this isn’t a problem.
The Sainsbury’s free from pasta is marketed as being free from egg, gluten, wheat and milk. It comes in its typical free and yellow packaging which represents their free from brand. The packaging states that it is made from Italian corn and rice. A 100g cooked portion contains 157 calories, 0.5g of fat, .05g of sugar and 0.13g of sugar. You cook as per the instruction which to be fair is the same as ordinary pasta. I cooked mine for 9 minutes as I like it a little Al dente. It looked and had the texture of the regular pasta I enjoy. I had great hopes for tasting this pasta. I have to say Sainsbury’s didn’t disappoint. The pasta was light and springy with a little firmness noted. It was not soggy, dry or hard. I personally found it difficult to tell the difference comparing it to my regular pasta. It worked really well as part of my dinner.
I then saved a little over and cooled it down and rinsed if under a cold tap as I would my regular pasta for my salad the next day. Sadly, this did not work well it hard gone hard and dry despite being in mayonnaise. Maybe I need to google to find out how to have free from pasta cold, as my usual method failed. Please don’t let this put you of, if your diet means that you are unable to eat regular pasta. It worked really well as part of a hot dish, and I would defintley recommend you give it a try. So thank you to Sainsbury’s for producing a nice free from fusilli.
