Review of Hartley’s Smooth Strawberry Jam

Well I was in a local Tesco’s the other day on the hunt for a quick snack to grab on the go. On the way to the checkout this jam caught my eye. It looked more like a dessert than a jam. I picked it up. I loved it was in a squeeze bottle with the inviting heart on the label on the front. The strap line was squeeze me on cakes. I just had to give it a go and make some quick and easy cakes. I checked the label on back, no allergens were highlighted and it stated for both vegetarians and vegans. It was suitable for my dairy and lactose free diet. So that was it came to the checkout with me. A 15g serving contains 38calories, 0.0g of fat, 9.2g of sugar and 0.01g of salt.

On opening the bottle I smelt the jam a feint sweet aroma was noted, but I wasnt able to describe this a strawberry. I squeezed the bottle and medium to thick consistency smooth jam was revealed. I felt it was more like a dessert suce as opposed to jam, I was pleasantly surprised. It was easy to control the portion size and I great fun squirting it onto my toast. On tasting the jam was slightly sweet and had a nice subtle taste of strawberries. I loved the fact it was as smooth in consistency without being too thick or thin and runny. It made a great lunch time treat of jam on toast.

It would defintley make a great ingredient to cakes as the label suggests. I think it would be a great sweet treat to add to the top of ice cream or as part of a sweet pancake. So thank you Hartley’s for making a nice jam that I can enjoy. If you are looking for a fun jam to try, why not give this a go.

  1. oh pinkie bag – strawberry jam in a squeezy bottle…..it does look as thought it would work well for desserts – to decorate plates and meringue etc. Sugar content higher than usual jams though, sounds more like a sauce?
