Review of Hale & Hearty Choco Jungle Cereal

I fancied a change with my breakfast cereal, at which point I was experiencing a bit of a chocolate craving. Knowing that most chocolate cereal is not an option because they contain milk or its derivatives I have to be honest I wasn’t expecting to be able to find a chocolate cereal that I will be able to help. I checked the free from section just in case. I stumbled across these. These are marketed as being in gluten, wheat and milk free, whilst being suitable for vegans. It is made from a combination of quinoa, corn and rice. They come in a bright orange box, with monkeys on the front. It was clearly aimed at children but I didn’t care this grown up was going to give them a try. A 100g serving contains 379 calories, 3g of fat and 0.2g of sodium.
On opening the packaging as see through plastic packaging is revealed showing round chocolate boulder shapes. They looked very tempting and immediately said eat me. I have to confess to trying a few before they even made it to the cereal bowl. They were nice and crunchy to bite into and I had an immediate hit of the chocolate taste. They were divine, the best cereal I have had in a very long time. I could happily continues to enjoy them without any milk. However, I added the cereal to the almond milk I had got in the bowl. The combination of the cold milk and crunchy chocolate cereal worked perfectly together. The cereal remained crunchy and kept its wonderful chocolate flavour. The milk only changed colour slightly, going a light brown. To me this was a good thing as it meant the cereal kept it’s flavour and didn’t loose it to the milk. This only because I still really struggle to consume any milk due to the psychological aspect of cows milk making me sick.
I will definitely be buying these again, but as an occasional breakfast treat, as I do not want have too much of a good thing. I would highly recommend that if you follow a dairy free, lactose free, gluten free and wheat free, or a vegan you give these cereals a try. You won’t regret it. Thank you Hale & Hearty for producing and wonderful chocolate cereal that both adults and children can enjoy.
